If you’ve ever taken a trip around our country, you’ve probably noticed a tiny discrepancy, but one that holds high importance in local laws – some states will only require you to have a rear license plate, but others (a majority of them, actually) need you to have tags on both the front and rear of your model. Does Texas require you to have two plates on your vehicle, then? We’ll show you today!
Texas license plate requirements
There are 31 states in America that require you to have two plates on your car, and Texas is one of them, even though most of its bordering states only need you to have one. However, there are bills circulating in the state legislature that would allow cars priced at over $60,000 to only need a rear plate. Time will tell if this is passed, but shifts in public perception about two plates make it a definite possibility.
What are the benefits of having two plates on your model?
Like most vehicle regulations and requirements, there are reasons why two plates are required in over half of our united states. It might be more expensive to get two tags, but it’s much easier for law enforcement officials to identify and detect a vehicle if there’s a plate on both the front and rear of your car. Because of this, locating and tracking a stolen vehicle is a much easier proposition.
